Vernon has been Director of Music at Trinity Episcopal Church since 1997. He pursued organ studies with Warren Hutton at the University of Alabama, Sue Seid-Martin at the University of Notre Dame, and Fred Gramann in his hometown of Syracuse, New York. From 1997 to 2001 he was Associate Organist at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey.

Vernon is Dean of the South West Jersey Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, and has served as Co-Chair of the Scholarship Committee for the past ten years. He has also been active in the Association of Anglican Musicians, having served on the Executive Committee of the 2012 national conference held in Philadelphia.
