Growing in Love of God and Neighbor

Adult Formation – Advent and Epiphany

We all know the story: Mary and Joseph; Baby Jesus; no room at the inn; away in a manger;  shepherds; a star; three wise men. Soon, we will celebrate Advent and Epiphany with candlelight and carols, with pageants and presents.

But, what if there is more to the story? What if there are other characters, historical events, an additional religious heritage, all of which can expand and deepen the miracle we will celebrate in a few weeks?

To find out more join Julie Bathke and Jane Shaw for a four-part discussion of Amy-Jill Levine’s book Light of the World, A Beginner’s Guide to Advent. The discussion sessions will meet in the Reception room from 11:20 to 12:30 on December 8, 15, 22 and January 5. The book is available on Amazon for $10.29.

If you are not familiar with Levine’s work, find one of her interviews, sermons, or presentations on You Tube and prepare to be delighted. Her book is equally engaging. While you will probably enjoy the discussions more if you read Levine’s book (it is short) please join the group even if you don’t have time to keep up with the reading. Julie and Jane promise no pop quizzes.

Whether a newcomer or lifelong member, adult formation at Trinity is a great way to get to know the people you sit next to on Sundays. It is good discussion, prayer and scripture, sweeping insights, laughter, snacks (thanks coffee hour teams) and a threadbare red sofa. And there is always a place for you.
